Diogenes: Master of Philosophy

And the case of wine? Oh hell yeah, it's natural to drink wine. As long as I don't have to pay. It's natural to mooch on wine, I guess is my philosophy.

This comic might be closer to Epicurus, who notoriously loved pots of cheese, but philosophers like Diogenes and the Stoics, like all Greeks and Romans, loved cheese. And a lot of them had ideas like "we should live according to nature".

There are actually mixed sources on Diogenes's attitude towards finer foods, in some cases saying he gladly accepted cake and saying the best tasting wine was "someone else's wine", other cases saying he refused luxury foods and wonder why slaves watching their master eat gluttonously didn't simple take their food for themselves. When asked what philosophers eat, I guess just was just like "bro we eat whatever else eats, what kind of stupid question is that?" No matter the case though, cheese and wine, despite it being a bit unnatural, was a necessity of life, and Diogenes, like all those who are counted amongst the wise, knew this.
